Five vintage Japanese Tsubas (used to prevent the hand from sliding onto the blade during thrusts as opposed to protecting from an opponent's blade). The desired look was to keep the three dimensionality intact by suspending the Tsubas independently off the silk platform by floating them on a layer of museum anti-reflective acrylic using silk wrapped spacers. The frame is a slant corner profile gilded in clean 12k white gold leaf at the face, and natural organic walnut with spline joinery at the sides.
